It’s so weird to think how drastically different from everyone I meet in New Paltz. I come from the south bronx, it really isn’t all rumors. When people talk their lives back home or complain about something I always have to step back. The other day a friend of a friend got jumped. Which was apparently a traumatic experience for my friend. In the bronx that shit is common practice, you walk out of your apartment and you are in danger, at any time. People get jumped in their own hood. Don’t even get me started about going to other hoods, you’re just asking to get fucked up. There was a time when I thought this was just the way it is, that people just lived like this until I came to New Paltz. So many suburb kids, so many people that’ve been sheltered from strife. For a second it makes me angry that they’re so sheltered but in reality it’s just anger at the system. It’s crazy that people are able to accept it. You have the 1% that could buy countries for their sweet 16, you have the suburb people that get the ipad2 the day it comes out, then you have the people that live in holes in the wall and live on corner store bacon egg and cheeses and never walk outside without problems. The part that blows my mind is that if you have any sensible poor person their life goal is to move out of the hood, to be go buy an arizona iced tea without grabbing their knife. And you have the fact that this is the VAST MAJORITY of minorities, but this isn’t a race rant. Even with suburb whites you have people who have to go without a cell if their phone breaks and then you have people who have the chick who when she asks for a pony at her 7th birthday, has a large ranch full of rare breeds of champion race horses the next day. And this would be totally fine, you worked for your money you should be able to spoil your kid but this is a VAST MAJORITY, like if I drew a pyramid of this ratio I’d have to have an arrow pointing to the 1% portion cause there wouldn’t be enough space. It’s such a one sided fight that there’s just no over emphasizing it. When they say the 99% movement they mean 99%, NINETY NINE. Think about a pie chart. Admitably, most of these 99% are the suburb kids I was talking about before. But Still. There’s still the…….65% (made up statistic) that live like I do. How is it okay that 65% live like prisoners and 1% live like greek gods? How did it take so long for the occupy wall street protests? (btw the 1%? yea Im pretty sure they all have fathers who are wall street bosses)
