Racism in the Elevator

 Ok, clear sexism in here… and my other thought is this… what if she has an anxiety disorder of some sort. What if she does that with everyone who walks into the elevator with her? What if she has been mugged before? Granted, racial profiling, ect as wrong, and so is discrimination but there’s sometimes other factors.

Honey, this video is a spoof, calm down.

1.  I am calm. (Or rather WAS, now I’m irked.)
2.  Do NOT call me “honey”. I am not yours, and it’s dehumanizing and degrading to be said out of the context of an actual existing relationship. I don’t know you. How would you like it if I called you “babe”, “darling”, “sweet cheeks”, or “baby”? Same thing. 
3. Yes, it’s a spoof, but the sexism and what not still exists within it. That’s JUST as bad as looking at a rape joke then telling someone “calm down, it’s just a joke” when someone takes offense to it. 

Just because others use “Honey” as a derogatory term doesn’t mean I did, I call everyone Babe, Babes, Honey, Sweety, Darlin. Don’t jump to the conclusion that I set out to offend you by using a word that is SUPPOSED to be a term of endearment. And it is not my fault that people take things too seriously, laughter is healthy and it makes me feel good. This video IS FUNNY, and was made to make people laugh, not offend. You can be “irked” all you want, just know who you’re talking to first before you assume I was being rude.

Yes, it’s a parody, but why is it that the racism that’s being addressed blatantly is taking a backseat to supposed sexism?

The video is about racism. And it sucks when people pick and choose other things about it to degrade what it’s really trying  to say.

 I am sorry. I wasn’t meaning to put racism, the actual message on the back burner. I just also feel that with his use of “bitch” was unnecessary.

While yes, racism exists, yes it’s wrong and there’s a lot of historical context between why he or any other POC would be upset by someone stepping to the side and clutching their purse… there’s also a lot of factors as to why she would do that.

I know I typically walk to the side when ever someone else gets into the elevator regardless of who it is. I find it awkward to be in an elevator with some random person. If I’m with someone else that I know, I’d be a lot more comfortable and I may start conversation. But by myself I know that there’s a risk of me being attacked, and I’m often mistaken for a child… my size also makes me an easy target for kidnapping. If I don’t know someone regardless of race, sex, ect I may hold onto my purse if I have it because it’s a nervous habit. I used to do it at school too with my messenger bag because I had been bullied from Kindergarten all the way until 12th grade. So I do have some anxiety at times when it comes to strangers, and I’m still working on that.

Now, the fact that she clearly thought that he might want to steal her purse, that’s racism.

I believe it’s quite clear, especially for the purpose of this video, that she’s being racist. There’s a difference between shrinking away from anxiety, and giving the man in the video the disdainful nose-crinkle that she did. It’s just different.

 It’s also sexism. She’d be a lot less wary of a black woman.

Goddamn you tumblr. It’s very clearly about rascism you fucks. The white woman is not being oppressed, she’s being rascist and disgusting. His use of ‘Bitch’ isn’t putting her down because she’s a woman, but because she’s being hurtful and disgusting to this guy for no reason. He’s well-groomed, healthy and appears to being doing well in life but still, she’s clutches at her purse like he could snap at any second. The fact that so many of you seem to completely ignore the message and side with the woman, regardless of everything else, is pretty disgusting and you should be ashamed of yourselves.

Fun fact: Being on tumblr has legit made me hate feminists (note: not feminism, feminists). Did you really have to strike up a fight with someone over the word hunny? Did you really just take a video about racism and try to say it’s about sexism? Sometimes I feel like certain people should have their opinions censored.
